This is Barnes.
This is Barnes. Surrounded on three sides by the Thames, it’s one of London’s greener villages and a great example of the trend towards “15-minute city” - an urban design where you can reach everything you need within a 15-minute cycle or walk. Barnes’ green credentials are underlined by the 100 acre London Wetland Centre and the 120 acre Barnes Common, still owned by the Dean and Chapter of St Pauls Cathedral. The village has sheltered musicians from Handel to the Rolling Stones and even provided a rest stop 400 years ago to Archbishop Langton on his way home from signing the Magna Carta.
Barnes has a wide variety of properties, from multimillion-pound mansions by the river to Edwardian era flats. This week I’m showcasing one of the latter, co-incidentally a property I own. It’s just off the village’s main street, near Barnes Bridge station.
